| ZONE 4 - PEOPLE & EMBLEMS | ||||||
The main attraction of Zone 4 is the copy of the restored emblem of Boon Rawd Brewery, that of the Hanuman biting an Arrow. The Hanuman is the Monkey God in the epic Ramayana. Praya Bhirom Bhakdi was born in the Year of the Monkey, thus he chose this symbol to represent himself as the Founder of the brewery. The Arrow represents His Majesty King Prajadhipok who helped made Praya Bhirom Bhakdi's dream come true. The King and his Council first approved the project in 1932 whilst the Kingdom of Siam was still under Absolute Monarchy. Later that same year, after the 1932 Revolution and the change to democracy under Constitutional Monarchy, the new government threw out the Royal Council's approval, and thus Praya Bhirom Bhakdi had to go through the process of approval again. The new government kept stalling the approval, and His Majesty had to step in to help speed up the process, which eventually got the approval in 1933. Praya Bhirom Bhakdi asked permission to incorporate the King's emblem of 3 Arrows, but the King granted one Arrow. In addition, the Arrow is also the shape of the Memorial Bridge and the surrounding roads, built to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Bangkok and of the Chakri Dynasty. Because of this bridge, which would affect the way people crossed the river thus directly affecting Praya Bhirom Bhakdi's old ferry business, the idea to build Siam's first brewery thus began. |
